This Swiss chard is grown for its red-stemmed green foliage that is just as edible as its excellent tasting, blood red roots. It needs to be placed in full sun or partial shade, in a loose, rich and well drained soil. Sow in spring to early summer, 3cm (1 in) deep, in rows 30cm (12in) apart.
